Jeremy Phillips KC Appointed to Sport Resolutions' Mediator and Development Arbitrator panels

Chambers is pleased to announce that Jeremy Phillips KC has been appointed to Sport Resolutions' Mediator and Development Arbitrator panels.

Jeremy has been addressing issues of individuals' fitness and propriety for more than four decades. This experience covers a broad range of sports, including horseracing, athletics and swimming, as well as the casino, minicab (PHV), sex entertainment, nightclub, pub and security industries.

He appears before tribunals and courts at all levels. 

Jeremy is also the Editor in Chief of Paterson's Licensing Acts, the definitive legal licensing text, and a General Editor of Smith and Monkcom: the Law of Gambling

Jeremy also sits on the Lawn Tennis Association Disciplinary Panel, the Professional Conduct Panel of the Teaching Regulation Agency and is Head of Francis Taylor Building's Arbitrators & Mediators Panel.

The appointment is for 3 years from 1 April 2021.

This is a rapidly expanding part of Jeremy's portfolio. Fitness and propriety has been a key element of his practice and legal business over four decades, forming a major element in a large proportion of licensing decisions, both at the time of grant and upon licence renewal or review.

Such issues were also central also to his role as law firm Senior Partner, member of Bar Council's Ethics Committee, the Law Commission's Panel concerning taxi licence reform, primary, secondary and SEND schools governor and role as Trustee and of a major UK charity.

Jeremy has been a member of the Lawn Tennis Association's Disciplinary Panel since 2019, and was appointed to the Professional Conduct Panel of the Teaching Regulation Agency Panel in 2020.

British Horseracing Authority (BHA) – advised racehorse owner re inquiry into allegation that an overseas national owner had profited from 'inside information'.

Swimming
Re Swim Wales – advised former swim coach and drafted Statement of Case for High Court civil claim against former employer / club.

Athletics
B v A (an EA licensed coach) – advising parents (pro bono via Sports Resolutions UK) of an Paralympic athlete in relation to potential claim for recovery of expenses paid to former coach.

Medical
GMC v Dr A – considering substantial file of papers detailing historic position and advising (pro bono via Advocate) on prospects of success before the MPTS (Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service) on having the right to practice restored.

Social Work
SWE v RB – assisting former social worker in her application to be restored to the register following an Interim Suspension Order initially made on November 2017.

Teaching
Jeremy was appointed to the Professional Conduct Panel of the Teaching Regulation Agency Panel in 2020.
